The World's End Is A Giant WTF

I think the best way to describe what happened during The World's End, and the most used phrase, WTF. In all sense, if there is any, The World's End is essentially a drinking movie that finds itself in a apocalyptic world full of blanks. Blanks are the term for the blue goo robots by the way. Despite all that, The World's End is strangely heartfelt while being ridiculous and funny. It is a tale of 5 old friends reuniting for one night to have fun and unknowingly end up in the center of a conspiracy. The main reason I went to see The World's End is because I had seen Shaun of the Dead, which had also starred Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. I had really enjoyed that, so, wanting a movie that was just down right silly, I went to see The World's End and I came out with a smile. Although those of you who are not fans of crude language and subject matter, this is not the movie for you. This is not your grandparent's movie, nor for young children.

The World's End begins with Gary King (Simon Pegg) narrating how the five friends met and were like back in the day and how they had almost managed to do the golden mile. A bit disappointed, King sets off to gather the gang again to finish the golden mile this time. One by one, King visits Peter Page (Eddie Marsan), Oliver Chamberlain (Martin Freeman), Steven Prince (Paddy Considine), and Andy Knightley (Nick Frost). They all reluctantly return to their hometown, where King shows up with the Beast and begins their journey. At the first pub, King is disappointed that he isn't remember and that Andy drinks water now. At the next pub, they run into Oliver's sister Sam (Rosamund Pike), who has arrived in town. The next few pubs, the gang begins to notice something strange going on and it confirmed when King gets attacked in the bathroom. This is when they notice that their attackers are not human and have blue goo inside them. In order to avoid detection, King decides that best plan of action is to continue the golden mile in order not to attract any attention.

I'm not really sure how to describe what exactly happened in The World's End, but I do know I had a good time watching it. It is British and Simon Pegg humor that makes me laugh at the stupidity of it all. I just loved Simon Pegg in Shaun of the Dead, which was the main reason I went to see The World's End. I also love the general editing style of the film as it holds that trademark Edgar Wright, collab with Simon Pegg editing style we saw in Hot Fuzz and Shawn of the Dead. I think in general if your a fan of those movies, you're going to like The World's End. Beneath all the gags and jokes there is a tale of old friends getting together and discovering their friendship all over again. In addition to proving true friends are for life. One constant source of amusement during The World's End is Simon Pegg's character how driven he is to finish the golden mile and all his little personality quirks. That's pretty all I can think of saying on how interesting The World's End was. Or rather it's really hard to describe it.

Now what about The World's End didn't make it watchable but rather avoidable? There is the obvious if you don't like this kind of humor, please stay home or watching something else. If you are young and very old, find something else. No one likes it when someone walks out of a movie complaining how vulgar it is when you should have known that before you walked in. Research is your friend. The World's End has swearing, crude jokes, and violence. Like joking about having sex in the handicap washroom, or consuming insane amount of alcohol. There is no complicated storytelling here, but rather a fun, drunk, adventure with friends.

It has been a real treat this summer that not one, but two movies about the world's end were successful and that The World's End finishes the summer movie season off with a bang. Unless you're not into this type of movie. Otherwise, you'll have a good laugh and an a enjoyable time while watching The World's End. Our rating is:
It was a great movie, but it didn't wow me either.
