Jack Reacher Benefits From Cruise's Charisma

You a few months before, I would have just deemed Jack Reacher as one of Tom Cruise's movies in this comeback franchise. After watching several promos for Jack Reacher that tickled the special movie part of me, I was finally interested. Despite Jack Reacher being yet another crime thriller that will only add to the genre, it greatly benefited from Tom Cruise's performance. In fact, the character of Jack Reacher is what made Jack Reacher so interesting to watch. Although there are a couple plot holes here and there, but there isn't many. Not to mention that the ending of Jack Reacher doesn't really give any answers to the questions lingering.

So Jack Reacher opens up with a scene of a sniper on a parking garage picking off people on a waterfront across. After five people dead, and a suspect, James Barr, captured, it seemed like a pretty open and shut case. It changed when Barr asks for Jack Reacher, a man who used to be a military investigator with a impressive service record, and was pretty much living off the grid. Jack Reacher soon shows up, and meets Barr's lawyer, Helen. Helen soon asks Reacher to be her personal investigator on the case. As Reacher begins to investigate he realizes that the evidence was too good to be true, and that there was something bigger here at play. Jack soon finds himself using his own methods to find the truth.

I did enjoy watching Jack Reacher as Tom Cruise took us for a nice ride that was worth while watching. Much as it has been said about Tom Cruise taking on the role of Jack Reacher, he did a good job with it as he really sold his character to the audience. I really did believe that he was a smart ass, bad ass investigator. It also helps that he is a veteran in the action movie genre as well, which really helps in the combat scenes. His character also had great comedic timing which is seen throughout the movie. One of the best scenes in the movie was when two morons are trying to attack at the same time in a small space, and they kept hitting each other. Slap stick comedy anyone? What also made Jack Reacher great to watch was the journey that it took us along on. There was no moment during Reacher's investigation I thought was boring.

Now there is the matter of plot holes in Jack Reacher I would like to address. As I have mentioned before, the ending of the movie was not as satisfying as the journey it took to get there. Yes, some questions were answered, but there were still some big ones in the air. Like what did they have on their accomplice that made him help them? Who was the old guy exactly? In fact what was his involvement to begin with? Finally, what was the final game plan? Just a lot unanswered. Another question, but not about the ending. Jack Reacher is supposed to be this military tough guy with some serious skills, but two untrained men manage to get the jump on him? I smell a writing error. The writers should really address these plot holes.

I am glad I saw Jack Reacher was it was very enjoyable to watch. As much as it has been said, Tom Cruise really held the movie together as he made Jack Reacher an entertaining character to watch. You can expect good action, and some laughs from Jack Reacher. Our rating for this movie:
