Skyfall Is A Brave New World

"The future is a brave new world". Bond utters these words after meeting his new Q. Skyfall was not the tale of M's past, but rather the bond and loyalty that James Bond and M share towards each other and their country. Dubbed the "best Bond film" Skyfall dives more into the plot than the action as Bond must find who has the stolen Intel of undercover MI6 agents and threatens to expose them all. Not only that, but the culprit has a connection to M. Skyfall does deliver on the promise of an engaging story as our favorite British spy is back in action. Before I get into this, just a friendly reminder that I am new the to James Bond franchise and I don't know everything about it. So I probably didn't catch all the little teasers that Skyfall dropped during the film.

Skyfall didn't waste time as it went straight to Bond in chasing a suspect down after major intel was stolen that threatens MI6. This includes car chases and fights on train until M orders the shot to take down the suspect and Bond is hit instead. Bond's body is never found and is considered MIA. Three months later a terrorist attack occurs on MIA after M receives a  message, "think of your sins". This attack brings a very much alive Bond back out of hiding and into the field. Although Bond is not at his best, he is back in the field and on the trail on the missing intel. Bond eventually comes face to face with the man in question, Silva, an old friend thought dead. Bond must race against time to save M and his country against the terror Silva brings.

Now if Skyfall was anything it was story driven. So for fans of the old Bond films and their story lines, Skyfall is for you. It develops the character of Bond further as viewers learn more of Bond's past and his relationships. In addition, to the fact that there was really no main squeeze for Bond this time around. Sorry if you liked that. Now with all the drama going on with the main plot, Skyfall would ease the tension with the odd joke here and there to make the audience have a little laugh. It is never a good idea to keep the audience wound up for so long, which are why these scenes are so good. Skyfall also has some references that link to past Bond films, the ones that stood out the most for me was the little joke about exploding pens and the old car Bond had. The villain for Skyfall was fantastic as he was really someone who had nothing to lose and was very driven towards his goal. There was no way Bond could talk him out of it. Not to mention there is credit needed to be given to Daniel Craig and his his always good interpretation of James Bond.

Now as much as Skyfall had a great story, there were something things about it that I didn't like very much. There was something about Skyfall that didn't make me absolutely love it. I didn't hate it either. As I mentioned before, I am new to the Bond franchise and  a lot of references to previous films went by me. For fans of the franchise it was probably a real treat to find these hidden little gems. Skyfall also has moments where it does visually distributing and the one that stood out in particular was the scene where Silva shows M  his month. I had to cringe away from the screen, and I don't mind violence in movies. Another screen I found creepy, or rather it was creepy actions by Bond was sneaking into the shower with the girl already in it. What would you do if a strange man walked in naked into your shower? Obviously not what she did. The final point I would like to point out is the scene where Silva breaks out of MI6 and how it very similar to the Joker's escape in The Dark Knight. Although MI6 is much more heavily guard than a police station. Oh the Trojan horse routine.

I enjoyed Skyfall overall, and watching Daniel Craig as James Bond. He is the Bond I am most familiar with. As I have mentioned before, fans of the franchise will be in for a treat as references are dropped here and there throughout the movie. Newer fans can enjoy the plot and action scenes that Skyfall delivers. I must say though, my interest has been peaked in Skyfall about Bond's past. Watching Skyfall once was good for me though. Our rating for the movie:
